Yet another fatal pedestrian accident
The Vancouver Province reports of another fatal pedestrian accident, which occurred over the weekend on Sunday, September 21, 2008, in Vancouver, at the intersection of Commercial Drive and North Grandview Highway. The offending driver was allegedly speeding, when she nicked a cyclist, skipped a red traffic light and rammed into an elderly pedestrian couple who were crossing the road at a green light in a crosswalk, killing the man and seriously injuring the woman. The woman has been hospitalized with serious personal injuries.
This brings the total pedestrians killed in Vancouver this year alone to eight out of a total of 15 fatal traffic accidents.
The mere fact that these two pedestrians were mowed down by a speeding driver at a green light in a crosswalk is disturbing enough. However, in an all too familiar turn of events as in other similar reported situations this year, the offending driver left the scene of the accident and is yet to be identified. Yet again, an innocent life has been lost and other lives destroyed in an accident that could so easily have been avoided.
